He was a political giant, no doubt about that. He was a solid representative of the good people of South Carolina all those years.

And no matter how many mea culpas and philosophical turnarounds he claimed, he exits this world a racist.

I hope the next world has less patience for people like him.

I hope we've learned something from him. I hope we don't do it the way he did.
